Hi Jan,I read on your website about the use of Spline in CAD systems. You are right, Splines are commonly used but as far as I know they are not that good for surfacing especially when designing aerodynamic surfaces. Splines are degree 3 polynomials defined in between each two points of the list you give to the tool to calculate the curve. Eventually your Spline is composed by a bunch of smaller curves that are tangent and curvature continuous at each point. I asked to some guys at work, who belongs to the lofting department, and he told me they do not use Splines when creating aerodynamic shapes. Now when I look at your pictures (the render of the model is very cool) it seems that your surface is damn good. Now the question: is it a matter of CAD tool (I use V5 not UG) or of way of working? I will post some pictures of my trials soon to explain my issue better!Ciao,Luca

Hello Luca. I just looked at the splines I made for the wings, they are a 3 degree spline, trough defining points. The surface is a high quality styled sweep surface. I dont know of another curve type in UG that makes a better result than the spline. BTW we have about 200 points defined per profile section, that gives a very high amount of defining points in the spline. What is also very imortant is the in/out tolerance defined when generating the CAM paths for the machine. It must be set very fine, otherwise the surface will look "stealthy" where the surface is very flat. (the in/out tolerance is defining how many points you will get out in the program for the CNC-machine) I tried to make a picture of the wing positive with an image reflected into it, it might give a good feeling how the surface are. I am very interested to hear what your colleges tells you. (are you working at Airbus?) BTW, the homepage is updated with some small news. Best regards Jan

Hello Laurent. You are right, John has made one testfuselage from only glassfibre to test the joining method, and the next one with carbon in will come out of the mould tommorov. For sure we will post some pictures of that one on the homepage.... About not sleeping, when I made the servoplates and cores last weekend, I started saturday evening at 21.00 o´clock, and got home in bed at 5.30 sunday morning..... I have to mill when the machine are empty from real work.... Nice to hear that you follow our project Jan
